ALTERNATIVE INVESTMENTS FOR SOUTH AFRICANS

Having a saving’s account with a local bank is better than nothing, but putting about 10% of your money into alternative investments is a great way to shake things up and not hold all your eggs in one basket. Also, you can end up making a whole lot more interest than you would from your bank account. Some of these off the wall investments can even offer some great capital growth. For the sake of not being too boring, I will not, in this article, go into the usual path of buying share or unit trusts or some or other policy. Nor are we going to chat about Cryptocurrency. Instead, we are just going to explore some delightfully different avenues for you to diversify your wealth from as little as R1000.00.

AVOCARDO FARM

Are you an avocado pear fan? Do you love eating them? Did you know you can also own a tree or two or a row of trees? You get to share in the profits when harvest time comes around. As the trees grow bigger, they also produce more Avo’s and so, the harvest is greater and your profits as well. You will receive returns of 65% of net harvest profit for the next 15 years. Of course, you can just ask them to send you all the Avo’s and scoff them yourself. You can find out more and look at the different varieties and rows that you can invest in over here.

MACADAMIA NUT TREE’S

Have R2000 sitting around that you would like to double over 6 years? Here you can do just that. Your tree will take 6 years to grow just big enough before it can be harvested. It is at this point that the farmer will buy it back from you. During the 6 years, your tree will be maintained and looked after with no extra cost to you. If your tree dies or something happens to it, it will be replaced for you at no extra charge.

SOLAR PANELS

Purchase your Solar Panels through Fedgroup and for the next 20 years, you will be paid a monthly rental for them. At the end of the 20 years, you have a guaranteed buyback from Fedgroup of R1000 for your panel. Your return on investment is between 10 and 12% per annum. Panels are insured and maintained so you do not have to worry about anything.

HOTEL ROOMS AS ALTERNATIVE INVESTMENTS.

From just over half a million rand you could be the very proud owner of your hotel room in Europe. There are several options to choose from, though this is my favourite, Of course, owning one of these rooms entitles you to an annual ROI of 11.84%, and one day when you sell it, capital appreciation. You can also stay in your room! There are hotels in South Africa that you can invest in, but those usually start from one million rands, If you already own a house here, and even if you do not, I would suggest it would be prudent to own some property overseas.

INVEST IN A CEMETERY

At the time of writing, you could invest in a South African Cemetery for as little as R1000.00. There are many other unique and unusual investments on this site, both in South Africa and Global. WHISKEY

Enjoy a good whiskey ever so often? This London based company called Whisky Invest Direct offers a great investment opportunity if you are prepared to go through all the hassle of working with your local bank and paying swift fees. It could be worth all the trouble as whisky has shown to be one of the greatest and most profitable investments you can make over the last few years. Your whisky will be insured. You will also have to pay a monthly storage fee, but just think, you will have a rand hedge as your investment is in foreign currency. You will end up owning some mighty fine, brag-worthy alcohol that can be either shipped to you or sold for a fat profit later.

WINE

Fancy yourself as more of a wine connoisseur? well, I have not forgotten you. Here is a lovely local company for your next investment in some good wine. You can open a cellar with them and have your wine professionally stored. If you want to auction your bottles or even buy bottles on auction, they have the partnerships to do this for you. Apart from the individual bottles or cases that you can purchase, they have an ongoing PIP Investment that you can get involved with, though this does not come cheaply.

INVEST IN YOUR CONSCIENCE

Do something good today and every other day by pinning Big Cat Rescue site to your tabs and clicking on the bone daily. By doing this you will feed a wild cat. It will take a couple of seconds and cost you nothing! The good you put out, comes back tenfold, so as far as alternative investments go, count this as one of them.

CATTLE

Invest R12000 for a guaranteed 10% as a first-time investor after 140 days. Your cattle investment is insured against theft, snake bites, illness and lightning strikes. After this you can re-invest for 10 -20% return depending on the market at the time. You will be getting 87.5% of the profit generated from the sale. They will shortly be offering sheep as well.
